I have a 160 gb hdd that was loaded with Xp when i connect it with a usb easy ide device it says "does not contain a recognized file system" and do i want to format it.
Is it corrupt and goosed or can i retrieve files from it somehow?
Thanks in advance , getting desperate now

give this a try m8

download Hirens.BootCD.13.2

burn the ISO to a cd

boot your pc with your dvd rom drive and select

windows mini xp

and then check to see if you can get the information for the drive , if you can just copy the stuff over .....

hope that helps

Thanks lads just trying GetDataBack ver4.22 now , looks like it will take another 13 hours its on 8% now so it might be recoverable.

Could you not have tried it as a master on the system it came out of? You say it had XP on it, I'm guessing you put it in an enclosure to use for storage?

If it was originally Xp with an Nfts file system would it have changed by trying to access it by the usb ide device or if it has corrupted ?
Thanks for any help.

only if you tried to format it/convert it to a dynamic disk/changed owt.

Just accessing it differently shouldn't have touched anything.
