Hi Guys,

Sorry to be a newb.

Just a wee quick question hopefully.........firstly i am new to Freeview, i have been using good olde Dboxes for a good 2 years but have now moved to a house with no TW or NTHell :FRIGHT:

So i'm now looking to get myself a Freeview box with a view to using this wonderful site's keygen in the New UserCP to watch Setanta.

My question therefore is what is the best box to buy, is it OK to just go and buy the cheapest box i can find on amazon/asda/tesco/ebay?

........Or do i need to buy one of these boxes with a TUTV card slot? I understand that this will allow me to buy TUTV cards to view more channels but do i need this to simply watch Setanta using the keygen?

From what i can see from the search button on the site all i need is a ViewerID which it looks like i can get from the box when changing channel. I've read through the stickies on RH/XV etc but this seems to mean nothing to me. Is it just a case of entering your ViewerID and getting a key from the keygen?

Is it this simple? Thanks in advance guys.

Yep, mines just a cheap Goodmans one (no card slots), when you change to the channel needing a key, it'll show your ViewerID, place it into the keygen and then enter the code it generates :)

Thanks for your reply blaze, thats great news........

Off shopping i go.....weeeee............

I have a Matsui DTR3 and it wasn't too costly. It has no card slots, but it is neat and doesn't take up too much room

Had old pioneer ondigital box and recently updated to a Humax tgu1 with slot in case any future ay per view developments.
Have not been disappointed good box, easy to use and picks up a strong signal, 10/10, in an area that apparently does not get freeview.
Would recommend the Humax:Cheers:

I bought a Goodmans from argos with a TUTV slot - no probs at all.

I have one of them Matsui DTR3 freeview boxes to wullie_b.Problem is i broke the remote control for it when i was drunk onenight.Dont know where to get a replacment for it.

try getting one off those 1for all remotes or a touch screen remote. should do the job

setpal box

ive got one of the labgear boxes with setpal software in it it holds the signal well, great for weak signal areas, you might have to hunt around for one,but great stb

Hi all.
I got myself a Nokia 121T last week and set up new Setanta and RH channels using the correct Video/Audio PID codes to allow 'instant on' without having to mess with codes...works a treat I can tell you.
A decent wee box for the money but only time will tell on reliability.
Here's a link to the box and review...

Only thing I dont like is that it has no composite audio outs... shouldnt be a problem though as I will split the audio from the scart l8r. :)

currently using an Alba box i bought from sainsburys where i work

its ok but sometimes drops the sound completely :(

going to buy a PVR soon though

Sorry to go off-thread slightly...

@taloola...are you in an area where it's not possible to get cable or is it just that the house doesn't have it installed?
You could subscribe to a broadband package and split the connection...then you could dig out your olde dbox again...just a though!
