Fortec star alignment problems

:xmas: hi guys, first visit to this site and hope not the last...As a none tecky i am hoping to gain experience and indeed the answer to what I expect most people out there will find boring.. Whats the best way to align a fortec 60cm dish. Tried 4 days, had 81% signal strength for 1 second then lost it.My elderly father has been my eyes and ears whilst i hang somewhat shakily from the ladder. Not easy. although it is a bungalow so not too bad. Do I need to buy a signal strength meter or do i carry on with the compass I purchased from Maplins. HELP PLZ

motorised satellite tv installation guide by HISAT - YouTube presuming its a motorised dish,signal meter does help.you can get one for about a fiver of ebay
