Fault code reader

Hey guys, been searching ebay to no avail. I need a fault code reader for 5 series E39. Engine management light has come on

Whats a good one to get that can be used without any problems?

i would drop them a email and give them the car info and year of 1st reg and see what there say

Wold rather go for standalone ones rather than attaching to laptop as i find them fiddly.

This one states BMW but how accurate are they as i can see some go for £150 and im sure for £20 the price would reflect the quality but i dont know really.

I was stuck with "which one" too.
Ended up ringing one of the guys who advertises on $bay, but also sells on his own web... cheaper.
