Eurovox PVR5000 hard drive

Hi,does anyone know what format the hard drive records in.Put my hard drive into a caddy and plugged into PC but nothing at all comes on.Was going to try and convert films off pc onto it so could store and play on tv.Not sure if it will work but vant get anything at the moment.Cheers
