US-based sports broadcaster ESPN has confirmed that its classic sports channel will launch in the UK next month.
ESPN Classic Sport will mix classic highlights, matches, movies, interviews, profiles and documentaries from all genres of sport. Launch highlights include Borg vs. McEnroe - The Great Wimbledon Rivalry, England's 2003 victory over Australia in the rugby World Cup final and the 1984 European Cup final between Liverpool and AS Roma.
"We are delighted to be launching in the UK which will significantly increase ESPN's presence in the marketplace," said Lynne Frank, MD for ESPN International in Europe, Middle East & Africa. "The new channel has been specially created for the UK market."
ESPN Classic is already established in many European countries and also airs in the US and Canada. The UK channel will be available 24/7 on Sky channel 442 from 7pm on Monday, March 13.
