Digital Odometers

Hi all,

I have been doing some research on the net about modifying digital odometers (milage) in cars. It seems that all that has to be done is to reprogram the eprom in the dash. Apart from the obvious reasons for doing this, it also has the benefit of being able to program up a second hand dash from the scrapyard to replace a broken one.

I have seen sites on the net that would charge a fortune to do this for me - and I was wondering if anybody has any software/instructions that they would share to save me some money?

Cheers!

Just to give you an idea about what I'm talking about - here are some links:
Does anybody know of any others?

As far as i understand m8y, you need some realy expensive hardware and software to do this job...but yes its just a matter of reprogramming the eeprom....

You only need a PC or laptop with a serial port on it, and a serial cabel with a chip socket on the other end, thats all the hardwear you will need m8.
The hardest part is getting hold of the software for it,
once you get hold of that, all you need to do then is take the dashboard to bits and take the chip out from the back and then reprogram the eeprom with the new mileage.
That would be the cheapset way to do it i will have a look around and see if i can find any software for the job.........Gazer.

Nice one gazer, sounds good to me...il look forward to getting the software, if you can find some...!!!!

Thanks Gazer - It would be great if you could get some software!

I would have imagined the car manufacturers would have made it almost impossible to take out the chip...or at least have made it very difficult to do...do u know of any protection on the dash to stop u from doing this?

Hi m8's I would'nt mind some of that software to play around with myself.I hope if there is any found it would be posted for all.

i thought all you do is connect to the service plug?? and then use the software which i can get for £995(with leads)for all bmws, which lets you do everything there is other software for merc`s, audi`s,vw`s it is the same software that they use in main dealers.

i used to work on trucks and u only had to use a laptop plugged into the service plug on them and u could change everything computer controlled from speed limiters to suspension characteristics.
