Details on the first new Top Up TV-ready set-top-box were announced today by Thomson.

The DTI2300 will appear in shops beginning in the middle of next month, initially priced at £79.99. The box will receive all Freeview services and have a card-reader for Top Up TV conditional access cards to enable subscribers to view the new subscription-only services.

"We are delighted that Thomson, the leading supplier of digital terrestrial boxes in the UK, has chosen to produce a set top box that is ready to receive Top Up TV," said Top Up TV CEO Ian West. "We believe that a significant number of customers looking to purchase a digital terrestrial box will be interested by Top Up TV’s 10 popular channels which are suitable for all the family. We look forward to working with Thomson over the coming months to make this product a big success."

The connectivity on the new box includes an optical audio link, two SCART connectors, and RF in/out. In terms of software functionality, the box will feature an EPG with a channel preview pane, a favourites list, channel re-sort, and parental locks.

"With an established presence in both the Freeview and Digital Pay TV markets, and Thomson’s proven technology, the DTI2300 is a natural extension of Thomson’s family of products," said Thomson's Senior Vice President of Broadband Access Products and Worldwide Satellite, Koen van Driel. "We feel it also demonstrates Thomson’s ability to quickly develop best in class products in a fast evolving market."
