Monty Don is to replace Alan ***chmarsh as the presenter of Gardeners' World.

Don, an authoritative journalist and broadcaster, is a respected pioneer of organic gardening with accomplished gardening credentials.

BBC Two controller Jane Root said: "I'm really pleased that Monty will be joining the Gardeners' World team, he was the natural choice for the role and brings with him a wealth of gardening expertise.

"His charismatic presenting style will be a welcome addition to the fresh and innovative new series of Gardeners' World."

Monty Don has published eight gardening books, including the prize-winning The Sensuous Garden.

He has made many appearances on BBC One and presented a number of gardening programmes for Channel 4, including Real Gardens.
