Courtney Love continued her descent into a rock'n'roll blackhole last night, when she was arrested in a nightclub after allegedly striking a member of the crowd with a microphone stand.
The volatile rock star played a surprise show at the Plaid club in New York City on Thursday morning, just hours after baring her chest to talk show host David Letterman on live TV.
However, the gig, before just 400 people, soon turned ugly, when Love threw her mic stand into the crowd during the gig, reportedly striking a man in the head and causing a bloody wound.
The injured man stumbled out of the crowd and informed security guards of what had happened, insisting he wished to press charges. Love, who was seemingly unaware of the incident, was arrested when she left the stage.
According to CNN, Love went "quietly" after being informed of the injuries suffered by the 24-year-old man. A spokeswoman commented: "It was pretty bloody. No one really knew while she was performing that this happened.
"She wasn't aware and did a few more songs. He worked his way through the crowd to the door and security called the ambulance."
As she stepped off the stage, Love was approached by police and told what had happened. "She decided to go quietly," the spokeswoman said.
"She had no bad intentions when she threw the thing, it was just part of her acting. She didn't know she hurt someone and felt terrible about it, but she didn't feel she was guilty of a crime either."
Love was taken to the ninth precinct in the East Village and charged with reckless endangerment, according to New York police Sgt. John Grimpel. More charges are still pending. The victim was taken to Cabrini Hospital with minor head injuries.
