Netherlands midfielder Evander Sno has left Celtic to return to Ajax, according to the Dutch club's website.

The 21-year-old had failed to become a first-team regular since arriving at Celtic Park in 2006.

Sno, who was with the Ajax youth academy before joining Feyenoord aged 18, has just returned from playing for his country at the Olympics.

Ajax announced: "Ajax and Celtic FC have reached agreement about the transfer of Evander Sno to Ajax."

The Dutch outfit stated that Sno, who made 49 appearances for Celtic, mostly as a substitute, had signed a three-year contract.

He had attracted the attention of Celtic while on loan from Feyenoord to NAC Breda.

Sno, an under-21 international, was called up by then Netherlands coach Marco van Basten to the full squad for a friendly against England in 2006.
