A special version of Fame Academy featuring celebrities will air next month, the BBC have confirmed.

Comic Relief Does Fame Academy will broadcast daily in the week leading up to Red Nose Day on Friday, March 14. The programme will be virtually identical to the original format -- presenters Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty will be back, as will teachers Richard Park, Carrie Grant, Kevin Adams, Jeremy Milne and Jo Noel -- but the action will be sped up to accomodate the shorter timescale.

In the first show, all of the celebrity students will perform live to try and win a place in the Academy. The student with the least number of votes will be denied a place in the Academy.

The three probationers will be announced at the end of each subsequent show, just 24 hours before one is expelled. As with the original, viewers will save one student -- which of the two remaining goes is up to the other students.

"We're really going to find out what our celebrities are made of," said exectutive producer Richard Hopkins. "Schedules are tough and lessons are long but there's a real treat in store for the winner of the public vote on Red Nose Day. Or at least some record vouchers."

As well as the main shows on BBC One, there will also be support programming on BBC Three, CBBC and round-the-clock streaming on BBCi.

The identities of the participating celebrities are to be announced shortly.
