Phone Unlocking C12 Chip

When the 12C509 chip has been programmed does it replace the old chip or is it linked to the old chip if it is linked where is the new chip bedded<br />ne help would be appreci8ed...bilbee... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

on my site there is the hex and diagrams but the chip stays where it is the 12C509/12c508 with the eeprom on the c12.
