In the older days of Win7 and less, I use Hiren's BootCD to bypass any OS and run things like memory checks and likes of chkdsk to check for errors which is fine for PC/Laptops using BIOS with MBR partitions.

However, with advent of UEFI and GPT partitions (ie Win8+), the likes of this isn't possible with Hiren's BootCD.

I ask this because I had a problem that was brought to me with Win8 refusing to boot and safe-mode wouldn't work neither. In fact, only going into BIOS during POST was possible but obviously Hiren's BootCD wouldn't work with this setup.

I solved it by changing to legacy boot mode but obviously was forced to reformat drive back MBR for use with normal BIOS and stuck Win7 on it.

Is there some equivalent to use with UEFI/GPT (and ideally backward compatible with BIOS/MBR) so that I can bypass any OS and check for hdd disk errors?
