ADVICE - Just purchased an 8Gb KIngston card that is only 7.26 GB ?????

its 8 gb mate just like a hard drive you loose some due to the way its formatted

Gigabyte ≠ gibibyte.

Operating systems use binary to report capacity (i.e. gibibyte). Drive manufacturers use ISO's "metric" definitions to do the same (i.e. gigabyte) - a cynic would say to make the drive appear more capacious than it is.

As there is only one abbreviation for gigabyte, GB; the confusion comes from the use of the use of the JEDEC abbreviation of GB to indicate gibibyte, rather than the IEC's abbreviation, GiB.

Therefore, 8GB = 8000MB = 7.45GiB (which Windows, for example, would report as 7.45GB). You then loose some space for over provisioning, file tables, any encryption software, and any bundled bloat (more common on thumb drives).

Yep as above m8..:( aint too expensive to buy a 16gb these days, put it down to experience..been there ..lol

if you buy an 8 foot square patch of land to build on and keep something in, you wont fit something 8x8 in there, as youd first have to build the container to keep your stuff in, and if the bricks are 6" wide, then that means the internal space you have for storage is only 7x7 as 6" on each side is taken up by the 'container' to hold what youre going to store

same with storage, the 'containers' or file system has to be built first to contain the data youre going to keep on the device
