Acer wont boot

I am having a look at my nephews acer aspire 3050, as it will not boot into windows it is stuck on the splash screen saying acer.

Saying press f2 to enter setup you press this and it just hangs. I tried f8 and booted into safe mode and did a repair from unexpected shutdown, rebooted and its now gone back to the splash screen again, only this time i can not get back into safe mode screen f8.

Heres what i have tried removed cmos battery 1 min - nothing
Reseated ram - nothing
Removed HD - nothing
Tried hirens boot cd - nothing
Tried windows recovery disc - nothing

Any help advice appreciated cheers.

Have you tried restoring it to factory settings by pressing F2 at boot up to get to bios settings, check that D2D is enabled - save and exit
boot up again and press ALT and F10 keys together.
you will lose everything he has on it though.

By pressing esc i got a bios splash page not the actual bios, which amongst other things said

System BIOS shadowed
Video BIOS shadowed

So upon further reading i discovered it possibly could be the dvd drive at fault i have just removed this and rebooted it started first time.

A closer look at the drive pins show a small area of burnt/charred board.

Good result bar a new drive needed now lol.
