OFW 3.66 now out. This is a manditory update if you want to play online

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 3.66.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on 23 June 2011. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 3.66 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 3.66, you will need a minimum 180MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

System stability during use of PlayStation 3 format software and network services has been improved.
Note:

Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.
Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

180Mb seems a fair bit for an update considering all its doing is "System stability during use of PlayStation 3 format software and network services has been improved" according to Sony anyway LOL.

Obviously a bit more to it than what there actually saying

yip leemoo i agree with what you are saying it does seem that they are trying to eradicate cfw it took me quite a bit to install the update i thought it was going to brick my console as it took its time.

Cant see the point going forward CFW is dead. All new games are 3.60 and now all the updates are. Unless someone comes up with a new CFW then all you have is the back catalog play nothing new. We managed to sneak a few in after portal but that was pretty much the beginning of the end for CFW

i'm pretty sure, in the early days, it was said there's no hope at all, of hacking the PS3.

Times change, things move on.

I agree with you however there was naff all that came up exclusive for PS3 at E3. Im seriously thinking about getting rid of my PS3 now no CFW, just gonna play on me 360 now.
