A “BEST of British” video shown yesterday in Beijing as part of the Olympic handover featured an artist’s image of Moors murderer Myra Hindley.
The film, shown on a giant screen at the British ambassador’s residence, was branded a disgrace by Downing Street and Mayor Boris Johnson’s office.

A No10 source said the person responsible “should be fired”.

Winnie Johnson, mother of Moors victim Keith Bennett, was “stunned”.

She said: “Hindley is the symbol of evil — not a beacon of everything that’s good about Britain.”

The film montage was compiled by Visit London, not the 2012 organisers.

The agency is responsible for attracting tourists to the capital and was commissioned by the Mayor’s office.

It is thought the film-makers were attempting to showcase the best of British contemporary art by including a shot of the 11ft by 9ft monochrome painting by artist Marcus Harvey.

Created in 1995, it used kids’ handprints arranged to form the face of the Moors murderer.

The image appeared as the PM was making a speech, to the fury of watching Downing Street aides.

A No10 source branded it a “total disgrace”.

Mr Johnson was said to be “deeply disturbed” and immediately axed the film.

WTF???

Does no-one check this out before it was displayed?

I remember the image causing controversy when it was created.

Seen that on the news, I didnt know the portrait was made from childrens handprints.

Anyway....how the hell did they allow that to happen, it may have only been for a split second but someone should have spotted it.

anyone with a bit of common sense should have realised it was to promote london, so how the hell did that make it onto the vid??!

saw this on the news yesterday, whoever was responsable for making the film should be sacked. It's a disgrace.
