TAXPAYERS face a £50million a year bill to support students from other EU countries.

But a French student went to the European Court of Justice and got this cut to three years.
Last night ministers admitted 6,000 EU students in England could get £10million in grants next year and student loans will add £40million.

But Higher Education Minister Bill Rammell said the entitlement to a loan also applied to Brit students studying abroad.
Meanwhile the amount of debt UK students have when they graduate has quadrupled in five years, a survey revealed.
Those leaving uni this year expect to owe an average £12,640 each compared to £3,174 in 2000.
The rise was down to increases in tuition fees and the cost of living.
