Nokia has confirmed that its N97 smartphone will hit UK shelves on 19 June.
The N97 is the company's new flagship smartphone and features a 3.5in resistive touchscreen display, as well as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for those unconvinced by the software variants.

The smartphone will be initially available SIM-free for £499 from the Nokia shop on the 19 June. It will then be picked up by all the major networks (excluding 02) from 26 June, at which point subsidised deals will start to appear.

Nokia will be hoping the N97 helps claw back market share lost to Apple and RIM, however it'll be facing tough competition. Palm's highly anticipated Pre will launch in the US on 6 June. Apple is also expected to announce a revamped iPhone at the Worldwide Developer's Conference on 8 June.

The company will also be looking to the N97 to spread interest in its recently launched Ovi apps store. The N97 is the first handset to come with the service pre-loaded.

Nokia N97 arrives 19 June

Nokia has announced that its brand new N Series flagship smartphone, the N97, is going to hit the UK on 19th June. The touchscreen, QWERTY-sporting, S60 5th edition N97 handset will set you back £499. You can start laying out your sleeping bags outside the Regent Street Nokia Store whenever you feel like it.

The Nokia N97 is a big step up from the Finns’ previous N Series and smartphone offerings. It packs customisable Homescreen, tons of new widgets, social networking tools and news feeds. You’ll be able to add even more via the newly launched Ovi Store.

Hardware-wise, the N97 comes with 32GB internal storage, expandable MicroSD slot, a 434 MHz ARM11 CPU, 5.0 megapixel camera, HSDPA connectivity and WiFi. The resistive touchscreen is a 3.5” 360 x 480 pixel TFT. Check out our hands on pics here.

If you’re not sold on the idea of queuing on London’s grimy streets through the wee small hours, check out Vodafone or O2 for contract deals. Otherwise, it’s £499 in the Nokia online store.

In the meantime check out this making-of the Nokia N97 video. It’s pretty interesting…

Re: Nokia N97 arrives 19 June

Can't wait.

When does my three contract end for a renewal?!

:)

i cant wait. been waiting for this for ages

the question is do i go for black or white

tw@ tw@ tw@ cnut vodafone muther fookers aarrggghhhhhhh

last week they phoned me and said this phone has now been put back to Q1 2010, and ive been waiting about 9 months for it, so i said ok sod it, and renewed my contract for another 12 months, with my existing phone and cheaper monthly bills

9 fookin months, im phoning them now, as the guy i spoke to also said i could have a mobile broadband internet added to my account, and last night found out that i cant

not fookin happy now, grrrr

27th june this is available on vodafone, just rang them and reversed my contract renewal, and going to ring back the end of the month and get it sorted :)

the n86 is also due out soon.. looks a very good handset...

this phone does look nice but i wonder how true the battery life is compared to the figures they give

im a very heavy phone user, and when i first had my n95, after the initial charging, i only used to charge it once every 3 or 4 days, 2 years on and im still on the same battery, but now have to charge it every 2 days, sometimes each day if its been ringing like hell

Strange that.

I have and love the N95 8gb, and at first the battery life was good.

Now, not so much. If I am playing mp3s for an hour or two, and making the odd call, I'm lucky to get 9-10 hours out of it.

The true revolution will be battery capacity in mobile devices.

I wish Nokia could squeeze as much power out of their batteries as Sony Ericsson seem to do

I'm on an N95 8Gb as well, I'm a light user as far as text/voice go, but I use Widsets a lot.

I usually charge mine every few days whether it needs it or not.

There's nothing on the market at the mo' which seems worthy of upgrading for.

I had the very same thing about 10 years ago. It only worked for a few months.
