The developers of the Tails amnesic incognito live system, also known as the anonymous operating system, were proud to announce today the release and immediate availability of Tails 3.0.Tails 3.0 is a major update that's based entirely on the repositories of the soon-to-be-released Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system. It's also the first version of the operating system to be launched approximately at the same time as a new major release of Debian GNU/Linux."Debian 9 (Stretch) will be released on June 17. It is the first time that we are releasing a new version of Tails almost at the same time as the version of Debian it is based upon. This was an important objective for us as it is beneficial to both our users and users of Debian in general," said the devs. What's new in Tails 3.0
Prominent new features of Tails 3.0 include an entirely new startup and shutdown experience, providing users with a revamped Tails Greeter dialog during first boot, which lets them configure various important areas of the operating system before they're ready to use it, as well as freed memory poisoning feature during shutdowns.
As reported in our news articles during its development cycle, Tails 3.0 is using the GNOME 3 desktop environment by default with a modern and discrete dark theme. Another interesting feature of Tails 3.0 is that this is the first release of the OS to work only on 64-bit computers. Therefore, 32-bit PCs are no longer supported.
