Just discovered that your entitled to claim back tax relief for washing your own uniforms from work, if they carry the company logo. You are entitled to £60 a year and can claim 6 years back. Then there after your tax code will be adjusted to give you the money back. Not much but better in our pocket than the govt :) Just call your tax office and ask.

if im right mate it dont need to have the company logo to get the relief i used to work at jjb's and for years we wore our own gear and alot of people where claiming it i think you get the form from your employer, this could do with being in the freebies section no body seems to know about this and its been round for years ive never filled it in myself.

The only downside is that you may have to fill in a self assessment form and feck that!!

depending on how you apply!! If you ask for a form then yes you have to fill one for every year but you can send it a letter asking for refund of tax relief with you current p60 and it will be back dated without use of individual forms and your current year tax code will then be changed :) I am expecting a cheque for £345 so very handy indeed.

I think you do have to but dont see how they would know other wise, I was told on the phone when applying that I had to state on letter that I used a company logo uniform this is because you are washing company property and should you be washing your won clothes you cant claim. Thats the logic behind it anyway

You can also claim a rebate for professional membership and some unions.

2 examples:
A nurse could claim for uniform and RCN fees.
A teacher could claim for GCT and NUT/NASUWT.

i worked at asda for a year and the missus has been there almost 3 years so can we claim 4 years back then?

Both of us wore asda uniforms with logo on and washed at home.

its a shame we couldnt have a section for stuff like this and money saving etc in the bargin section alot of people are due money and havent a clue and lets be honest the government would never tell us.

I work offshore on the rigs, I've been claiming £250 a year for my work clothing that I wear under my overalls on the grounds that it gets ripped when the stewards put their kilt pin through my clothes. I've been claiming since about 1995. I've stopped now coz I got sick of the self assessments, I might start again :)

I suppose I could stand for parliament and if elected claim for the steward and washing machines as well ;)
