de brick that SB5100

I got some dead modems i could never revive...i will try this now...wish me luck !!!!

doesnt work..well not for me anyway...i have 3 sb5100i that are ok with the lights, if you plug them in the power comes on and the recieve flashes as normal, but when you press detect flash it says "no flash detected" i have had these modems for ages...i tihnk i must have stopped the flashes mid way or something...tried your method and they are exactly the same...blackcat 1.28 will let me press write all tab and select the file but it goes from start to finish in 3 seconds, so i know it hasnt flashed...older blackcat software wont even let you press write all....i also have an old sb5100E yes thats right an sb5100E...this does the thing where the lights come on for a second then all go out and is the same, no flash detected...this still didnt work after i tried your method...so thats a total of 4 modems i tried with and no joy....

i had that with a 5100 and tried blackcat 120 and it worked better.

Im also using blackcat 120 .

I have had 100% recovery of all 34 bricked modems using this method .

you sure you are connecting the 3.3V to all the 5 jtag pins . ( one at a time ) ?

Cheers bro

Ps . If you want , and its up to you . you can post me one of your bricked modems and I will see if I can get it back to life

I got an old cd rom audio cable which fits perfectly over the pin header, the other end i attached to the voltage reg.....im 100% sure of the connection....have tried this on a pile of bricks but no luck, it doesnt reset the flash....most of them are just no flash detected but they lights DO come on, not sure if this is a different circumstance ?

No m8

it should work ,
The only time I have seen this fail is when the Cmos is damaged .
But I have only seen that twice in all the de-bricking i Have done on the Sb5100 models

Cheers

i had a bricked 5100e a couple of years ago with the same symptoms and wont detect flash. the only way i got it to work again was to write a full memory dump to the modem from the memory tab then close Schwarze and then open Schwarze again it then detected the flash i then restored the flash and presto working modem. i also got a dead sb4200e working doing the same thing and recently an ambit 200. worth a try mate.

You could try running the 3.3v across all the pins of the TSOP chip itself (done this myself a couple of times seems ok) make sure the modem is powered up and the blackcat is conected and after running the 3.3v to the tsop pins trying a detect then. I tried that on my bricked modem and found blackcat could detect the flash type.

It is possible to do it by just putting 3.3v to the tsop reset pin but I find the pins so small that it was just easier to run the wire allong all the pins in a sweeping action.

The tsop is the rectangular chip bellow the voltage regulator next to the surfboard standby switch

Yuo run the wire accros EVERY pin on the flash chip ? both sides ? and it detected the chip ? whats the difference between a full flash and a memory dump ? surely a full flash includes the memory part as well ? I have tried this with both blackcat 120 and 1.28

That wouldnt be a good idae !!!!!!!

Chances are you would damage the Cmos or worse the whole modem .

Well i have kept banging away at this and have found a sort of work around for myself, i have tricked the modem into letting me flash it by connecting the bc cable to a working modem and detecting its flash, then i swap the cable over to the one that has no flash detected and it lets me flash the chip, on a modem i have tried this with the lights have now gone out, they were working before, the only thing i can think i have done is flashed an intel chip based flash onto this MX chip...does anyone have a full dump from an sb5100i baring the flash chip MX 29LV160ABTC-70 ??? i have downloaded some ariginal bioses from another forum but they dont seem to exactly match so i am going to go through them all one by one, not really sure which one of the following applies to the chip i am trying to flash....

MX9-fc00000.bin
M28W-9fc00000.bin

This one is the same as above but with sigma already on....

Hacked-M28W-9fc00000.bin

brian is that an 8meg mem dump?(not the normal full bios 2 meg)

any chance i can try that out as i have a dead 5100 here, again. BK sees the broadcom chip but no flash detected.

thanks m8

Or can anyone do a full dump for me with a blackcat please of a 5100 or 5100E...under the tab 'memory' click 'read'....it should be 8 megs.

thanks guys

hope it helps to get back some dead SB5100 modems
Cheers

I know its an old post but think it deserves to be awakened seeing as it just helped me.

Just used your tut on a 5100i that was doing the ol light up for one second and then nowt scenerio, and worked matey, i put SIGMA-X Version 1.06 RC4 BETA1, straight to it and now it lights up like a xmas tree and can get into the 192.168.100.1 page.

I have had it sitting here for a long time doing nothing so its a big thumbs up to you matey.

Wish i had cable broadband to try it on lol, but never mind, it saves binning it.

Thanks again.
