England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been arrested following an alleged assault.

The incident happened at about 0230 GMT at a pub in Southport. Six men were detained later in a nearby street.

The men, four from Huyton, one from Formby and one from Litherland, remain in police custody.

A 34-year-old man from Southport was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

The men from Huyton are aged 33, 31, 29 and 19. A 28-year-old from Formby and an 18-year-old from Litherland are also being questioned.

Gerrard, 28, is Liverpool captain and scored twice in his team's 5-1 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

Now this will be interesting when the facts come out. He could of simply been there and the whole lot got arrested, could have been someone mouthing off at him or he could have smacked someone.

I would out my money on someone else throwing the punches but time will tell.

He is England's best player and liverpool captain even if he stabbed him in the face someone will take the blame for it anyway (for an amount of cash lmao - huge amount mind)

But i do not think he would attack anyone for no reason does not seem the type :)

But i am just saying do not worry liverfools, even if he did it there will be no way anything comes of this!

Regards

disagree on the england's best player thing. Hasnt performed for england in the same way as he does for lpool and doesnt even come close.

That must be the reason why we won the euro championship's just gone :) lol hold on we never even made them lmao!

There is not one player in the England team that plays the same for England as they do for there clubs!

They are all just as bad when it comes to putting on the england jersey all that stands out about gerrard more is just how good he really is and he does not perform either and we could really do with him being the same player more than any other on the pitch, gerrard wins games for liverpool when they are playing poor... i do not see any other player in his standards in the premiership? maybe ronaldo ;) but he dont play for england lmao ;)

As long as he wins us the Prem title....I DONE IT :proud: Oh and a few £100K's thrown my way:Jester:

Now on a more serious note...Hopefully in the wrong place at the wrong time........

I'll concede the fact that Gerrard doesn't perform for England as well as he does for L'pool, but he performs a lot better than some of the players which put on the England Jersey. To name one is Fat Frank Lampard.

Back to the Original post, hope Gerrard has nothing to do with it, might have been the guys he was with....

The alleged victim of a nightclub brawl for which Premier League footballer Steven Gerrard was arrested is a DJ there, police sources confirmed.

The Liverpool FC and England star remains in police custody after the 34-year-old Southport man was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not thought to be serious.

Sources confirmed the man was an employee of the Lounge Inn, in Southport, Merseyside, where the midfielder and five other men were arrested on suspicion of assault in the early hours of Monday.

The Liverpool FC star was among six men arrested when officers were called to the Lounge Inn in Southport, Merseyside. An altercation took place outside the venue on Bold Street where it is understood Gerrard had been drinking.

Merseyside Police said the 28-year-old footballer and five other men were arrested on suspicion of assault.

Gerrard went out with friends just hours after his side's thumping 5-1 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park.

After the game the Reds' captain, who scored twice, hailed his table-topping Liverpool side as the best he has played in.

Gerrard was arrested after a disturbance at the Lounge Inn, a modern restaurant close to the junction of Bold Street and Stanley Street.

The venue converts to a late-night club venue with live music and DJs. The well-to-do seaside town is a popular destination for wealthy footballers looking for a night out.

the poor fella perhaps played the z cars theme

footballers arent the brightest of people (hopeless when drunk), so i wouldnt be surprised if gerrard is involved.

A friend of mine got 4 years for affrey ????

Did not have gerrards lawers mind!

Pretty serious stuff affrey (intent to cause a riot)

coming from Liverpool myself , word around here is that he was held for so long because he didnt see what actually happened , ( he wouldnt Grass on whoever glassed the DJ , ) ...

so he takes the blame for a serious crime himself? And when the police cant find any evidence to support who did it they charge him?

I doubt it...

He is still innocent until proven guilty...:littleang

There is also the option that someone is trying to make a few £s from the gutter press, they will be lining up to have a story and will no doubt pay big money for it, whether it is true or not, they dont worry about things like the truth getting in the way of a story. How many times does it happen at footballers parties, sometimes they are even set up. Footballers should know this by now. I just don't see him as that type of guy. I could be wrong though. It shouldnt be a matter of him grassing up a m8, if they were a true m8 they wouldnt let him do it.

Either way this will probably affect him on the field and thats what worries me.

It seems that looking here
[/URL] he wasn't even drinking, he had his car parked out side.

This article is worth reading as it puts a bit more meat on the bone than other articles, (names witnesses etc.). Interesting to see that the bloke making the allegations is a Man U fan, don't think he'll be dropping the charges easily! Apparently it was around 9pm before they started questioning them, that's a bit out of order.

No doubt the DJ thought he was someone special (like most DJ's, right up himself) and wanted to show Gerrard up. Trouble is he forgot where Gerrard (and more specifically his mates) are from, and took a battering for his troubles .

Sounds like Gerrard was partially involved although he didnt do the beating up, so he might get the affray dropped and just the charged with the GBH by the time it gets to court. Knowadays though you never know what the CPS are going to stitch you up with, bunch of f**king useless c**ts that they are !!
