the smoking law is getting put up to the age of 18 in october and there also thinkin about doing away with the 10 packs to try and stop kids from smoking!! HA if kids now these days want to smoke there gonna smoke wether they put the age up or do away with 10 packs ..... terrible if you ask me i only buy the 10 packs lol

yep your right, kids will smoke even if it was put up to 30. I remember when i was young the drinking age was and still is 18, 1t 15 i was out on the lash every weekend, it wont work fake id was and still is so easy to get.
Also when i was quitting i would only buy 10 packs, buying 20 and i would have carried on smoking i think. This govenment is so dumb it makes me cringe.

if they do away with 10 pack it might stop them spending there dinner money but then kids will just put there money together to afford a 20 pack ...

I hope they do increase the legal age of buying cigarettes to 18, maybe then it will stop youngsters from underage smoking just like making the legal age of drinking 18 has curbed underage drinking.

What planet do these people come from?

I started part time in a supermarket to help me with university this weekend and they told me they're already only selling cigarettes to 18 and over.

good idea in my opinion, although £10 per packet would be better or a complete ban

I think its a good move, the results wont be obvious until the next generation of teenagers.

SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU AND YOU SHOULD ALL QUIT LOL!

can anyone see a problem with this ?

What the **** are all the 16-17 year old smokers going to do, Id expect a few shop windows to be kicked in.

there,ll be no different to how they get them now, if the 13,14 AND 15yr olds can get them now then the 16 /17 yrs old wont have a problem either. pointless exercise as if they want them they will get them by one means or another.

Smoking 18
Drinking 21
Driving 21
Legal sex age 18

The worlds changed a lot since i was born, if the youth of today cannot respect current laws. Make the laws harder and the punishment severe for breaking them laws, bring back national service as a punishment.

personally don't know why it took em so long to raise it. Plus they need to really increase the fines and penalties they dish out to shops to make the shop owners much more less likely to risk their business selling ciggies to underage smokers.

its fur the good of there health a regret that i was able to get fags at the age a 14 noo a canne stop when a want to lol

why is it that there always jump on smoking when we chat about heath ,,put the price up for fags ,,fags are bad for you ,,which to be fair there are but is not drink a lot more of a problem then fags

It'll just make it easier for the police to search U18s.

You can have sex and have a kid at 16 but you're not allowed to watch it on DVD or at the cinema until you're 18...LMAO! That about sums up the system I think!

Maybe I been under a rock for a while, but I havent actuall heard anything about this other than here.

Any links to an official announcement ?

there will still be shops that sell single smokes and dont care to who. I know my local shop sold 'loosies' with a match when i was being dragged up.

i am completely for it.. I spent 10 years looking after my teminally ill grandad who died last year of smoking related illness. He suffered for a long long time
