I'm considering a personal cloud and was looking at a refurb 4tb WD my cloud at £95. I have a lot of movies and music on various devices that I want to amalgamate onto one device and access away from home. Anyone got a similar setup.

I went for a slightly more expensive setup with a Qnap TS-253A. You can access it remotely and also drop files (torrents) and it will download them for you.

True but its great piece of kit. Also has HDMI out you can install Kodi and other media players, backup software installed etc. I was lucky and had 2 x 4TB drives laying around work which I used. You can get some of the Synology Nas enclosures for around £100 or less and you will need to supply your own HD. Not had any experience of those.

I was listening to this week's TWiT podcast, when they mentioned the Sandstorm OS towards the end of it.

It might be a overkill for most users unconcerned with privacy; but if you're someone that has the hardware lying around anyway, it's a cheap and expandable way in to personal cloud.

I've not looked into it for myself, as I don't need cloud access to my files, but it works with dynamic DNS addresses.

for software part, if you entend to use different devices, you can use syncthing utility, it is multiplatforme.
