Donkeys years ago when I were a young un I got out the works van on a Friday across the road from my house on a pub car park going home and dropped £200 in a see through small wage pack with a staple through the money. I worked for a subby builders and all cash in envelopes
Anyway I darts in the house getting ready for a big session with the lads and starts looking for my money. No were to be seen, so I runs outside looking, nothing.
I had to borrow £100 from my parents and was totally gutted I 'd worked all week for it and would work 1/2 the next week paying the £100 back.
My mum said ring the Police station. So later on I rang they said we've swapped shifts and the safes locked till the morning ring back.
I went out that night still gutted and rang them in the morning not holding much hope as there was no payslip or name on the envelope. The Police officer on the phone said, "What note denomination was it in ?" when I said all tens and a staple through it they said "Luck sod its here, someone handed it in last night".
Turns out there was a guy walking his dog crossing over the car park a minute after I got out the van and spotted it and handed it in at the Police station. I went round his house to drop him £20 but he refused and said "As soon as I saw the wage pack and staple I knew it were someones wages and they'd worked all week for it".
If I found a single note I would keep it, simply because it wouldn't be missed as much as a load of money.
If it was attached say in an envelope a wallet or a purse then I would hand it in. If it were say a roll of notes I would take it the Police station. I always look back on that day with me and think , someone will be in the same boat I were that day.
