Sit Up will launch a free movie channel if it succeeds with its bid for the vacant Freeview slot, Broadcast reports today.
The company, which operates auction channels Bid TV and Price-Drop TV, recently announced its intent to launch two new movie channels on Sky this spring. 'Real-movies.tv' will feature "TV and cinematic releases based on real-life events," while 'Movies on 333' will consist of "westerns and showcase the best student films."
The new Freeview channel would combine elements of both stations.
Although Sit Up has been monetarily outbid by Channel 4 and ITV, it is still considered a strong contender. Crown Castle, the transmission company selling the space, has declared that a movie channel would be its first preference. Second favourite is a sport offering, followed by children's, general entertainment and finally niche news.
The slot is expected to be awarded by the end of the month.
