rooting htc desire

hi guys tryed to root my htc desire with unrevoked it comes up and says about firmware to new.....

so i tryed revolutionary and now have custom recovery and have s-off but no su how do i know root to get a custom firmware installed

Can you install it (su) from playstore? Try a reboot as well

yes i installed su from playstore tryed rebbooting too

also could someone point me in the direction off a custom rom please

Best place for roms would be xda, never had a desire but pretty sure you'll find plenty
