Got problem need help

Right here goes friend has BT internet in flat he also has virgin feed so he got dm 500c so rigged it up and was able to get BBC ,itv etc now here the strange part when he connects the box to the BT hub the box just freezes on the channel when he disconnects the Ethernet lead it works again doing his head in anybody have any suggestions to sort it out

Does the Dreambox dm500 have DHCP. Setup for the BT hub router to give it an IP address?

Maybe it has a static address setup in the dm500 and it cannot DNS or get any connection and causing some sort of lag?

Also what about another image, has he tried another maybe the image is bloated and once he connects the Ethernet cable everything is trying to update.

That would be my guess that something is trying to go online and update or connect and is memory / cpu intensive and stops everything else from happening.

A fresh image might be a good shout.

But it freezes on BBC you don't need internet connection for bbc

I was not talking about the TV side of the box, unless you login to telnet and run the TOP command you won't know what is running.

These boxes run all sorts or items in the background...

Leave it on bbc plug in the Ethernet cable - login to the box in telnet and run the top command maybe it will give you an indication on what is causing the load or freezing.
