Dreambox "Sky" Style Theme?

Hi All,

I've hunted about the net for ages now looking for a Dreambox Skin that looks just like the Sky Box UI, does anyone know if there is one floating about?

I have decided to go ahead and make one if I have to as I really like it and have looked into how to change/make skins and it looks like a headache so would rather not have to do it myself.

Hey i have one kinda made but i havent used the dreambox system for a while so remind me where its located and i will give u the files. It was made with that dreambox skin studio. So far the channel info bar looks perfect as far as the rest you may need to edit it.

lol. Ok I think I have found the files you may need. It works on my DM500C. As you can see from the image the main screen bar looks perfect shame about the rest though i haven’t got the time to sort the rest out nor the knowledge!

see that sky skin is that just a case of replacing the 2 files with the current ones.

next question how do i locate these files?

through ftp i assume.. (another thing im unsure of how to do)

Here is a tutorial. Please remember its only the tv menu bar that looks good the rest needs sorting so if anyone could help with that it would be great.

Also i am aware that i did put a background image in for the main menu. (IE the sky background image).

SO i have reziped the files into the correct folders for you to copy and past into the correct folders. Use Dreambox Control Center for ftp.

PS you guys dont no any good software to use to create these skins. The only software i have found is dreambox skin studio but that doesn't work half the time!!

Sorry tutorial is

Skins really spruce up the look and feel of the Dreambox and give it a new dimension. All of the skins I convert are in Gemini addon.tar.bz2. This makes it very easy to install skins when in this format. Why did I pick Gemini you ask? Well, IMHO it's the best damn image out there.


These skins even though in Gemini addon.tar.bz23 format, will work ONLY on the following images by manual installation: DSM, Gemini, Dreambox Busters, SDT, DB Bros, and official Dream Multimedia images. If you attempt to load one of these skins on other images, you will crash your box and may need to flash erase. You have been warned.


So now the question is how to install skins if I'm not using Gemini? Easy! Manual installation is what you will need to do. First, you download a skin you wish to use. Once downloaded, extract the .tar.bz2 with either Winzip or Winrar. You will be left with a folder called /var. You can disregard the subfolder called "uninstall" as this is meant for Gemini.

Next navigate through var/tuxbox/config/enigma. Here you will see one, two or three folders. There always will be a "skins" folder present. If there are graphics for the skin they will be in "pictures", and if the skin uses a replacement font, the font files will be located in the "fonts" folder.

Copy the contents of "skins" to the dreambox via ftp to /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/skins, copy the contents of the "pictures" folder to the dreambox under /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/pictures. Lastly if present, copy over "fonts" to the dreambox under /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/fonts.

To see your new skin in action, from the Dreambox remote --->Menu/6/3/5/Blue Button/Choose your skin and restart when prompted. Enjoy!

The file in the pictures directory is way too big!!

Looks pretty cool, just what I was after, only problem is it keeps crashing my box =\
I noticed the file is a .xml? does that matter, I renamed it esml as well but still crashed the box

I also tried the skin editor, just kept crashing every 30 seconds, so anyone know of any good tools and guide for making skins, would be much appricated

Hey rotty_dean, would you mind if I continued to play about with this?
Also how do you test your changes? I'm finding it really annoying having to re-flash the box if it doesn't like a image or something in the esml file, the first few times is a pain now it's just getting bloody annoying lol

I would like to help devloping the skin further if possible....

For ages I have been looking for a "Sky" like skin. I think a version of this for the DM600 would be great.

i had a go myself for the dm600 but failed badly lol.
mr dudes purple skin is superb the best yet. but a sly skin would be very cool.

Sorry for the long reply and anyone feel free to play about with it please post it back on here so i can use the improvment.

this is the best dream skin ive seen as of yet i shall be working on this to make it even better

i have it working on dm500 an tm500 had to rename the xml to esml but no issuses at all
