Hi Folks,

Just need a few quick pointers on the set up for kly Satelite for Ireland.

The brother in law has the basic Sky package in Ireland and I am looking to get him a box and set it up, from what I've learned in the cable section I think I know what to do, but I have also learned to ask first, then buy the gear.

I reckon we need this, please let me know if I am correct.

A box, probably a Dm500s.
An image, is it still DW 1.6.5 for satelite.
The satelites.xml for Ireland, must be in downloads I guess.

What extra services will it unlock for us and how stable is it...??

Cheers.

There are no hacks for sky. Please read the sticky.

Using a sat-dreambox for sky satellite gets the channels you pay for, simple as that.

OK.....read the stickys.

What are the satellite boxes mostly used for then, what do people buy and
set them up for, is it just for all the freeview stuff...??

It all depends on what you like to watch but mostly people buy sat receivers so they are not limited for choice. Satellite TV has far much more to offer than uk sky channels (IMHO). Like you get more football, more movies, real adult stuff, and so much choice from thousands of channels from all over Europe. Some will buy a dreambox because of its ability to use an official card & because you can illegally share official subscriptions, but I doubt anyone buys it to just limit themselves to the free-to-air stuff.

Hope that helps.
