Thought I would post this having had a few issues (codex not supported etc.) with playing files using the Openbox built in Media Player, usually avi files downloaded from the internet.

Download from link below FREE - Easy video converter for the new OpenBox S9 media player.

HandBrake

Recommended settings for the Openbox using "Handbrake".

If saving as a mp4 then go to Tools / Options/ General / untick "always use ipod/itunes friendly extensions" if you don't do this it saves the file name extension as m4v

1. Click “Source” tab, upper left and select the file you want to convert.

2. Click “Browse” tab, select where to store the converted file and name it. I suggest plugging your OpenBox hard drive in and storing it direct to it.

3. Make sure “Normal” is selected for presets.

4. Click “Start” tab.

That’s it, wait for it to finish. No need to mess with any settings, the “normal” will produce a nice MP4 that will play flawlessly on the S9 or S10.

Have to agree manic01 is a great little box.
I initially got luck with most of the mkv files I had and they played perfect, only recently have I ran into a few issues with the audio not playing.
so many settings and variables on mkv's can be a minefield when encoding.
