Raya French died after a freak allergic reaction from raw tomatoes
A man whose wife died from an allergic reaction while preparing dinner for their four children has said the family will still "celebrate" Christmas.
Raya French, 37, from Tankerton, was opening a tin of spaghetti Bolognese when the tomatoes in the sauce sent her into anaphylactic shock.

She collapsed and was taken to hospital but never regained consciousness.

Stephen French said his wife would not have wanted their children, aged four to 15, to miss out on Christmas.

'More severe'

Mr French said Raya would wish for their children - Alexandra, 15, Tom, 10, Maddison, six, and four-year-old Louis - to enjoy the festive season.

He said: "It's been a very difficult time but we're working towards Christmas.

"The kids have lost their mother but they shouldn't lose out on that."

Mrs French began developing an allergy to raw tomatoes three years ago but the reactions became more severe in recent months, her husband said.

The local vicar, Canon Patrick Sales, paid tribute to the courage the French family have shown.

He said: "They have been very brave and positive about all this."
