tomtom go 500

Help required! first time poster so appologies if posted in the wrong area.

long story cut short, nipper has tomtom go 500, sd card now missing !
can anyone help ?? never backed it up etc etc never logged into tomtom home etc etc

i'm sure i can get the maps from another source and not pay the 40 quid tomtom want and looking around on the net it seems that it is not just a case of dragging and dropping the copied files on to the new sd card.
but it will need patching ?
i can use a pc but a total newbie on this subject so the more basic the better

can anyone shed any light on this and help me out ?

get your self a new sd card download tomtom home put the sd card in the device plug it in to your pc tomtom home should pick it up let tomtom home do its bit it should put you the newest application on the card, then you need to get your self a the map which you want form which ever source you can find. you then need to patch the system, i will send you a link were you can get a patched system for your device then you will need to patch the map which i can help you with too
