The Goonies will be reunited 20 years after their first big screen adventure if Steven Spielberg has his way.
According to MTV News, the legendary director has teamed up with the film's original director, Robert Donner, and purchased a sequel script which he hopes will get the greenlight from the Warner Bros.
The premise of the sequel would see Mikey, Mouth, Data and Chunk befriend a new group of kids called the 'Groonies'.
"The new group is called the Groonies because they happen to live in a town where [Data], the Chinese kid, lives ... and he's got an electronics repair shop and all the kids hang out at his shop," Donner explained.
"He has this Chinese accent and he calls the [original] Goonies the Groonies, and so the new kids call themselves the Groonies, until they get into a situation where the old Goonies have to save the new Groonies, or vice versa."
Development of the project will continue through 2004.
