all of a sudden the box will not turn on stand by light is always flashing
any ideas folks,was in middle of loading firmware

Easier said than done these days, ever tried finding a pc/laptop with a serial port? As it happens I've just updated a Spider this way, I resurrected a 15-year old NEC Packard Bell (remember them?), serves as a good reminder of easy things have become these days. I believe it can be done with a USB~serial cable too.. I have one of those too but it was the wrong gender for the box, so if you are rushing out to buy one make sure it's correct or get a gender-changer too.

Well serial is certainly not dead but it seems to be very difficult for people in order to get it working (Like USB 2 serial dongles). I would blame AUTOPLAY HARDWARE OS 4 this.
I have done much IT technical support in my life and have noticed that the last 10 years most of us have really troubles even doing simple things like configuring network, configuring software, etc ... Nowadays, it should be all automatically ! But again, can't blame people for that ...
