StreamCast Networks Inc, distributor of Morpheus software, on Tuesday said it launched a new version of the popular file-sharing software that is spyware-free and enables users to have an added layer of privacy and security.,
"Morpheus 3.2 is our response to the legitimate concerns of our users about the invasion of their privacy. While we do not condone copyright infringement, we also do not condone the targeting of our users and the invasion of their privacy," said Michael Weiss, chief executive officer of StreamCast.

The latest version, offering increased protection against identification, is being rolled out as the music industry prepares to sue people who illicitly offer songs online.

Companies like StreamCast, which supply peer-to-peer software, are moving to reinforce their privacy shields and are also preparing to lobby lawmakers and rally their users, Weiss recently told Reuters.

StreamCast said it released Morpheus 3.2, an upgraded spyware-free version with new features, making file-sharing faster, safer and more secure.

Spyware is any technology that aids in gathering information about a person or organization without their knowledge. On the Internet, spyware is programming that is put in someone's computer to secretly gather information about the user and relay it to advertisers and other interested parties.

The new version of Morpheus also features maximized bandwidth usage, improved network efficiency, up to 50 percent reduced traffic, and faster search results.
