Best-selling author Stephen King is in hospital suffering from pneumonia.
King, 56, author of The Shining and Carrie, checked into a hospital in Maine on Sunday.
He was recently diagnosed with pneumonia in his right lung but his condition worsened as it spread to the other lung.
King's spokesman, Warren Silver, said there appeared to be a connection between the pneumonia and a 1999 accident.
The writer almost died when he was struck by a van and suffered a broken leg, hip and ribs.
It resulted in scar tissue on King's lungs, which make him more vulnerable to ailments such as pneumonia.
"Stephen and his family ask only for good wishes and prayers, and at this time, when we celebrate the bounty of our country, that we remember those who are in need," Mr Silver said in a statement
