Blueyonder has announced pre-registration arrangements for a new 256kbps broadband access tier.
The new entry-level tier will be priced at £17.99 per month, and will be aimed at users who want always-on access for email and web browsing without tying up the phone line, but who don't need higher speeds for multimedia applications. Blueyonder offers 512kbps, 1Mbps and 2Mbps services.
The service will have a quasi-cap at 750MB of traffic per day according to Telewest's Acceptable Use Policy. "Users who regularly exceed this level may be contacted by email to discuss more suitable service options," Telewest added.
Chad Raube, Telewest Broadband's director of internet services, said:
"We've spent the last few years successfully developing ultra-fast home internet services and we've learnt that broadband users want choice and value.
"With the 256K tier we will have a full range of broadband services enabling us to offer consumers the speed that best meets their needs, whether they be experienced net veterans or more mainstream users seeking an entry level broadband service. We're expecting demand from people who have previously considered broadband a big leap from dial-up and now getting onto the first rung of the broadband ladder will become a no-brainer."
Pre-registration is underway at the Blueyonder website, with the first five thousand people signing up through the site receiving free installation and their first month free.
