remote control not programming properly?

Next to the fridge.
I have just bought a TECO 32" LCD TV - TL3281RT and i am trying to set my remote control up so that i can use the sky remote for turning on and off and for volume. I have managed to set it up for it to change volume and turn off but when i want to turn it back on, it doesnt seem to work. Any reason why?
