The Raspberry Pi could get its own monitor after a Kickstarter campaign to create a low-cost, nine-inch screen generated more than double the £55,000 goal set by the fundraisers.
The HDMIPi monitor has been created by startup Raspi.tv and the campaign for its production now has a target of £113,066. The concept behind the monitor was to create something small and affordable but with an HD display that could connect to Raspberry Pi devices.
The unit will have a resolution of 1200x800 and will also work with other devices such as Android units, video cameras and games consoles. It is expected to ship by February 2014.
The company said it could add other functions, such as touch functionality, as bolt-ons at a later date, adding that "enough people have mentioned it that we are sitting up and taking notice".
The product's fundraising success underlines the strength of the Raspberry Pi community. Demand for the device saw the millionth unit rolled off the production line in Wales earlier this year after the Raspberry Pi Foundation moved production back to the UK.
The foundation is hoping its efforts to provide a low-cost computer will help kickstart a revolution in computing in the UK, in response to devices released by firms such as Apple that are locked down and almost impossible to access.
The company has also backed the launch of new online computing courses as part of the ongoing push to improve IT education in the UK.
