What is a pdf file, I have instructuions to some hardware and it is in a pdf file format and I have not come across this before....

Its aa Adobe Acrobat file. Open with Acrobat.

(PDF)Portable Document Format is a file format used in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you havent already download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 and then you will be able to read any PDF files.

When installing software form CD's they somtimes ask if you wish to install the acrobat reader witch come with the software so instead of having a paper based book, alot of companys are now giving you the book in PDF format on CD which i supose save them money.

Thanx guys, I did have adobe installed on my pc, I am curious why it didnt automatically open the doc for me but never mind it works fine now thanx

You may first have to associate pdf with acrobat. One way of doing it is to install it again. Pdf files are quite good for things like manuals because of their ability to display diagrams as well as text.
