Newbie to freeview

Hi guys, i've been looking through forum but can't seem to find an answer. I have a freeview box, it has a card slot so i'm thinking I can proggy a card and ram it in and hopefully get some extra channels? how does all this work?? what do i need in terms of software and hardware to get it all up and running?

I used to have a code maker on my desktop to access the pron and some channels using the remote control you could punch in options using your remote and then get the password of the desktop don't know what happened to that method ?

real x codes are something I cant really remember I stopped it because people used to phone is a 1am in the morning so I could get a wank code for them lol
