Only 2 Percent of Windows 10 Consumers Using Microsoft Edge Browser
Stats show that Edge is far from becoming a top browser
Just like in the previous Windows versions, users can choose in Windows 10 from a plethora of browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera, which are currently three of the most advanced solutions in this particular software category.
But starting with this new release, there's also a new option developed by Microsoft and called Edge, which comes not only to replace Internet Explorer but also to become the preferred browser choice in Windows 10 and convince people not to install a third-party browser anymore.
That plan is yet to succeed until now, as statistics provided by Net Applications indicate Microsoft Edge currently has a market share of only 2.03 percent right now, well behind leader Internet Explorer 11, which has 26.90 percent.
As we've told you earlier, Microsoft Edge is nowhere to be seen in the market share statistics of basically every research firm, and these numbers confirm that Redmond's new browser is yet to gain traction, so with a little luck, future updates could change this.
First major update in October
Microsoft Edge is expected to receive a major update later this year, most likely in October, when the Redmond-based tech giant is expected to introduce not only performance improvements and optimizations but also new features, such as extension support.
Microsoft has already confirmed that extension support is coming in Edge browser, but no timing has been provided, so it's now believed that the October update, which will come with general goodies for Windows 10 too, will include this feature as well.
Edge will be a universal app available across all Windows 10 devices, including PCs and smartphones, and will come with the same features everywhere. Smartphones will get extension support too, but this time, there's no schedule available, not even a rumored one, so it's hard to tell when this feature will arrive on mobile devices.
