Celtic to test UEFA's reaction to revolutionary change in their meeting on Tuesday
GLASGOW, May 11 (DS) - Celtic will test UEFA's reaction to revolutionary change when they meet the governing body of European football for informal talks on Tuesday, the Daily Record stated.
The most influential forces in the game will gather for a pre-Champions League Final dinner in Glasgow.
Last night sources said that "matters of mutual interest" would be discussed. They include the possibility of a move into the Nationwide League as a means of winning promotion to the Premiership.
Sky Television are known to think it would be desirable to incorporate the Old Firm into England's major league. An insider announced: "Celtic and Rangers can't sit on their hands forever.
"They have to make things happen for themselves.
"Sky will always do what is best to attract new subscribers and they will put Celtic and Rangers where they think it will do them the most good.
"And putting the Old Firm into the Premiership can only add to its value."
The collapse of SPL-TV has put the Old Firm into a different camp from the 10 other Premier League sides. They want to form their own league minus Celtic and Rangers.
But the 10 have yet to go through with their collective promise to resign en masse from the SPL.
As things stand there is no TV deal in place for next season and the game is verging on turmoil with clubs asking their players to take wage cuts and reducing squad sizes.
Now the Old Firm may use the confusion as their cover to convince UEFA's hierarchy of the need for a move.
Celtic plc chairman Brian Quinn has consistently said the club can only flourish outside Scotland.
Last night a Rangers spokesman said: "We are unaware of any meeting."
