EastEnders fans in America subscribing to the Dish Network digital satellite platform will be able to watch episodes of the soap on pay-per-view.

Although the soap airs on free-to-air PBS stations in many markets, those episodes are often far behind those transmitted in the UK. BBC America, run by the corporation's commercial arm BBC Worldwide, transmitted newer episodes until September 2003 when it decided to axe the show from its lineup citing low ratings.

Dish Network plans to pick up where BBC America left off in the storyline beginning on June 6. The soap will go out in four-episode blocks that will be available at $3.95 per block or $9.95 per month. The new subscription PPV service is the result of an agreement between Dish and BBC America.

"At the time EastEnders came out of our schedule, we made a commitment to fans that we would work to find an alternative way for them to enjoy this fantastic show," explained BBC America's senior VP of Business Development and Interactive, Parule Basu-Barua. "We are delighted that Dish Network is helping make this happen."
