no mate mine as a wiikey installed and i am on 4.0,
@madnlooney nice post mate i haven't had a 4.0 to downgrade yet but i have no doubt one will turn up

would removing the softmod and turning it back into a virgin wii again (got a guide off here) then updating from sctratch be better or just updating while everythings still installed? which would be the safest option?

if your allready softmoded mate you can use the waninkoko updater to get to 4.0 also some people that have softmoded wiis have just taken the nintendo update and fixed any probs after that i used the updater.
I'm using the online guide and I get to point 2 (to use the IOS downgrader) and it just sits at the "initializing network, please wait..." bit.

Have you selected the correct network setting on the wii?

everything ive tried worked on mine so far mate.
Everything I've tried so far seems to work aswell. I've tested all Wii Channels, homebrew stuff, installed wads, and a couple of games.
One of the major benefits is most games are going to be > 4.0. So no messing about patching or removing firmware updates etc

I've installed preloader as an alternative
When the games with 4.0 start coming out the ios will b updated. All homebrew ive tried seems to be fine. If u have alot of channels including vc 1s they can be move and loaded off sd card

i really needed that bit ive manage to clear loads of room on my wii i nearly had no room to install anything else now as purity says all my vc stuff is on my sd now

My Wii is with fw 3.2e.
USB loader 1.5 is working, but there is some other (small?) things that doesn't work. Some games on the channels etc.
So. I'd like to uppgrade to 4, heard it is cooler.
I was thinking... Should I uppgrade from what i have now, or do a format of the Wii?
My thought is this; if i format the wii, maybe it will clean some crap from the Wii, kinda like re-installing Windows XP....
The best thing to do might be not doing anything since the USB loader works, but... Well. Would be nice with an uppdate....

dont format mate you will get a semi brick if im right if your going to upgrade i would use waninkokos updater.
That tips might have stopped my Wii from bricking, so; thank you m8
I will try the uppdater from the master....
Guess I will have a hard time breathing wile I'm uppdating though
Since a couple of things isn't working now, I hope the guide with the files is all I need
