dm800se - Internal WiFi or External USB WiFi ?

Hi,

My past experience with clone dm800se units with internal WiFi module is that the WiFi functionality can be a bit tricky to get working and is dependent on the image loaded onto the receiver. For example, I can get the internal WiFi module to work OK with an SR4 NewNigma image but I cannot get it to work with an OpenPLi image. I have never had any problems with any images when using an external USB WiFi module such as a Vonets.

Is it really worth the extra $10 per unit when ordering from China for the dm800se with the internal WiFi module when an external USB unit like the Vonets can be bought for ~£15.

The dm800se without internal WiFi plus a Vonets USB adapter comes out at ~£9 more per unit overall but the reliability of the WiFi seems to be much more guaranteed.

Are you saying that the default drivers included in the image for the clone dm800se need to be updated for the internal wifi to work? I like the OpenPLi image best but can never get the wifi to work with it?

I have new dm800se clone with integrated wifi ..I have flashed loads of images with every image the wifi worked fine.
I settled for DBUK 2.1.2 one without stupid boot logos just a moon..wifi works fine with this too.
I have found that the built in wifi is very good and has a great range.

Strange, the OpenPLi image I have installed (OpenPLi 2.1 beta) does not have TS Panel, is this installed by FTP to the box or can I download it as an add on or plugin directly via LAN cable/Internet?

That sound great, would you please be able to provide a link to the DBUK 2.1.2 image for the clone dm800se, I refused to install that one with the hub cap foottballer.

I have a genuine dreambox DM800se with the Newnigma 2 image. Just finished installing the white dreambox usb wifi stick and is working perfectly on this image.

It looks a lot neater than the voips set up as you dont have the power and network cables going into the dreambox.

Just to confirm, this image as you uploaded it should support the internal WiFi module in a clone dm800se without me having to update drivers etc?

I have ssl 84b already loaded in the dm800se so hopefully, I should be good to go straight after flashing.

Yes, the NewNigma image for the clone dm800se seems to support the internal WiFi without the need for any driver updates etc. It was the only image where I had managed to get the Wi Fi working previously.

Yeah it should work as the wifi drivers have been added into the image already I actually have my own backed up version of the dbuk image I was thinking of uploading aswell with a few changes so if this one doesn't work for you, give me a shout!

Hi,

I managed to get the OpenPLi image working with the dm800se internal WiFi. It was a straightforward FTP to the dm800se of later versions of the WirelessLan files than those included in the image.

After a restart of the dm800se and configuration of the WiFi network it is all running OK.
