Any glazers out there to help me with my problem?
I moved house last year and fairly soon on I noticed the windows let in quite a bit of noise. They seem to let in deep tones like car doors closing and it's getting really annoying. The windows are Staybrite and looking at them they are fairly well made ( stainless steel hinges, reinforced locking mechanisms etc ) and seal very well. My old house had cheap double glazing nowhere near as good quality but blocked out far more noise.
I was unsure why there was so much difference but looking at it today I'm fairly certain my old units has a 20mm gap and these Staybrites have only 15mm gaps. I've changed sealed units in the past but is it posible to replace 15mm units with 20mm? The bead that holds them in is huge, approximately 1 3/4" wide so hopefully there will be room to accomodate. Any one have any advice and does anyone think the PVC may be letting the sound in?
